should be parallel pointing in the direction of your target line. Drivers are lighter and can hit the ball far. Before going to the driver, don't over look the 3-wood. The 3-wood can help on tricky par-4s that have dog legs left and right.
Using your 3-wood or your hybrid and using a short iron for your second shot can be a way to go. Working with these clubs at a practice range as if you are playing a hole on the course, this will hone your swing.This will also help you with scoring when you really need to, like in a competitive rounds with golfing buddies.

Taking the driver out to cut down on shots and shorten holes is a method to shoot lower scores and reduce your handicap as well.
Phrasing it another way, using your longer clubs more often and being
consistent at this skill, produces a lower number on your scorecard.
